Real wacky races through the streets of Stockholm...

The original Wacky Racers: Monkey in a cage, ship and a full-size limo take to the streets in soapbox derby

The roads of Sweden's capital city are judged to be the safest in the world, with just a handful of accidents each year.
But that proud statistic looked likely to take a knock yesterday when Stockholm hosted the Red Bull Soapbox race.
No doubt inspired by the Wacky Racers cartoon, dozens of carting fans gave their imaginatively-designed vehicles a road test in the Soedermalm district of the city .

Pedestrians had to have their wits about them as the aerodynamically challenged, pedal-powered soapboxes hurtled across the tarmac.
It is not known if the bizarre race resulted in any injuries to the modern-day Dick Dastardlys and Penelope Pitstops.

But one thing is for certain, as these pictures show - Jenson Button and his Formular One colleagues won't be nervously looking in their rear view mirrors worried at the competition.

  1. While it may not be the real Wacky Races, seeing inspired races like these is good enough. I mean come on, you have to admit that it's funny. But I never thought I'd see Mutt Cutts in this one.
